Who are the Moderns?

Roy

A pop maven to some and a poser twit to to others, I spend way too much time (and money) on music, movies, and gadgets to be able to arrive at some sort of definition or understanding of myself. New, old, serious, or wacky, you’ll find my tastes veering wildly from side to side, so rest assured there’s bound to be some opinion of mine that offends, interests, or just plain bores you to tears.

For some reason, my working life consists mostly in helping other people bring their writing to publishable standards, although my own love affair with books ended just before I entered university. Now I read mostly mostly to avoid boredom and staring at other people while I commute.

With only a superficial understanding of everything I like, I’m certain you’ll find my entries the most shallow among my fellow Moderns. However, being also the most ornery among them, I shall continue to confound our unfortunate readers with my superficiality.

When I am not challenging the gamut of my neighbours’ patience with my incessant sax (yes, we’re referring to the saxophone here) skills honing, I’m probably holed up somewhere with a good read (at least to me). And unless it is premium strawberry ice-cream you’re talking about, don’t even think of weaning me off that book. Having said that, please banish any images of a no-life, bespectacled geek who thrives in isolation. Far from that, my current job entails constant gregarious interaction with a wide spectrum of humankind and of course, my first love–books.

Music, my second love (purely sequential), started in an unceremonious way two decades back when mummy dearest decided that she loves the drifts of pop tunes wafting in the house. This also explains the choice of the jamming organ over the piano, which I’m grateful for till today. With no offence to classical music or piano lovers, Beethoven and Mozart just do not speak my lingo. Apart from this exception, the twenty-odd years’ musical training had exposed me to various music genres. My articles in ModernPost will introduce and share thoughts on interesting music gigs and happenings. Note that “interesting” doesn’t come before “thoughts”. Shall keep all Posted (pun intended).

Warning: A novice blogger with musicomania coming your way. Keep your straitjackets away, please.
