Is anybody else watching this? I’m certainly tempted. Christopher Lloyd could be saying that we’re all descendants from this particular piranha, and I’d believe him. Add Elizabeth Shue, Richard Dreyfuss, Jerry O’Connell, and Ving Rhames into the mix? It just smacks of serious throwback goodness, and the trailer pretty effectively backs that up. Take a gander.

Trailer: Super 8 (2011)
So far, Star Trek is the only thing from J. J. Abrams that I unequivocally like. I didn’t follow Alias on TV, found Fringe tolerable, fairly enjoyed Joyride, but Mission: Impossible III is just too goddamned anal-retentive. Perhaps that why I like Star Trek so much. It’s soulful and fun and isn’t overly concerned about pleasing Trekkies all over the world. Super 8? The teaser suggests a different creature altogether. The presence of Steven Spielberg as producer may be a good thing, as he has been successful at preserving the human touch in his sci-fi movies (save for the abomination that is War of the Worlds). Guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
Trailer: Rammbock (2010)
Zombies. Berlin. What more to say? (The title made me think it was a Rambo spoof at first) Looks like a fairly effective genre effort from ze Germans, but personally, I’d say there’s not much left to mine in the field of zombie flicks, save for a few cross-genre gems (Shaun of the Dead, Zombieland, Dead Snow) every now and then.
