Trailer: Flame and Citron (2008)
Ah, Nazis and movies, an eternal love affair. From trashy fun (The Inglorious Bastards, Dead Snow) to thrilling heroic portraits (The Guns of Navarone, Where Eagles Dare) to insightful studies of humanity behind enemy lines (Das Boot and Schindler’s List), you’ve probably seen them all.
Flame and Citron looks like an addition to the last category. Directed by Ole Christian Madsen and starring Mads Mikkelsen (I really dug his turn as Le Chiffre in Casino Royale), the film promises to offer a healthy dose of dramatic turns, dark twists, assassinations, and a surprising number of explosions, all executed with the deadly seriousness of a mature comic book. Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds sounds like a yawn fest in comparison.

Hey! I watched this at the Singapore EU Film Festival a few months ago. A noir thriller set in WWII Copenhagen. Kept me ‘hooked’ till the end with good acting (character growth), twists and turns (betrayals and double-crosses) and the usual gunfights, car chases and a whiff of romance (sorry ladies!).
Look pretty good, judging from the trailer. I hope there’s at least a limited release later here in Singapore.
