Results of Firefox 3 Download Day [updated]
Actually, the results are not in yet, but the people over at Mozilla have recorded more than 8 million downloads of Firefox 3 in 24 hours! That’s gotta be some kind of record.
In any case, I’m glad to be part of the effort. Yeah, it’s hype, it’s a publicity stunt, I’m a sucker, but hey, I’d rather be a sucker for something that actually works. I can’t believe Microsoft is coming up with Internet Explorer 8. Let me guess: something that remotely resembles an amalgam of Firefox 3 and Safari 3, except it’s slower, more buggy, impossible to remove from your system? And the reason why it’s slower, more buggy, and impossible to remove from your system is because it’s super-secure, right? Right.
I’ve been using Firefox 3 on a couple of PCs and a Mac for a day or so now, and while it’s not a 100% (two browser crashes with particular websites), I’d say it comes pretty close, and it’s certainly the best browser to use right now. I like the speed and clean interface of Safari 3, but it still doesn’t work well with certain websites, and security seems to be an issue as well.
If you’re thinking what the hell does this have to do with movies, let me explain. You’re using a web browser to read this right now, right? And you’ll probably be using the same web browser to check out other sites, contribute to online forums, write your blog, etc., right? You’d want a browser that provides you with the best experience in doing all this, right? Well, there you go, the reason for this post.
If you haven’t already done so, just click here or on the above banner. You’ll never look back.
[Update: Just came across the first report of an apparent security vulnerability in Firefox 3. Apparently, you'd have to either click on a link in an email or visit a website with malicious code to be affected. Like I said, not 100%. Nothing ever is.]
